Peter Major

Director, Mining Mergence Corporate Solutions

Peter is a veteran mining engineer, fund manager and analyst, who is highly regarded and well known in the mining and financial service industries. He frequently comments in the broadcast and print media as a mining investment authority. Peter graduated from Montana School of Mines in 1981 and came to South Africa in January 1982 to work for Harmony Gold Mine. After graduating from UCT with an MBA in 1984 and working as Marketing & Training Manager at Eimco Mining Machinery, he joined Allan Gray in 1989 as a gold mine analyst for a period of 2 years. He spent 10 years as Head of Mining and Senior Fund Manager at Nedcor Investment Bank where he was the No 1 Fund Manager in SA twice; first in the Raging Bull awards twice and was runner up another year. From 2001 to 2004 Peter managed Mark Shuttleworth’s $530m fund, growing it to $1.5 bn. In 2006 he joined Mergence Corporate Solutions as Director: Mining.
