Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF)
Research at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology
(HIF) is dedicated to the development of innovative technologies and
digital approaches that contribute to a sustainable circular economy of
minerals and metals. Hyperspectral exploration, raw material
characterisation, flotation technologies, biotechnology, process
metallurgy and transdisciplinary approaches such as geometallurgy are
the core competences of the institute. Particular emphasis is on the
resource- and energy-efficient utilization of complex raw materials from
primary and secondary sources.

As a publically funded national research institute the HIF is located in
Freiberg (Germany). It is part of the Helmholtz-Zentrum
Dresden-Rossendorf and operates in close collaboration with the TU
Bergakademie Freiberg.

The HIF has formed a strategic partnership with the DSI-NRF Centre of
Excellence with the common goal to address critical challenges facing
the global raw materials industry through joint research projects, short
learning programmes and student training. Both institutions share booth
No T31 at Mining Indaba.
