THE NATIONAL MINERALS AGENCY – SIERRA LEONE
Mining activities in Sierra Leone are administered and regulated by the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources (MMMR) and the National Minerals Agency (NMA).

The MMMR is responsible for formulating policies and managing the minerals sector.

The National Minerals Agency (NMA) is a regulatory Agency responsible for promoting the sustainable development of Sierra Leone’s mineral sector; collecting, managing and disseminating geo-scientific data and information; implementing mining laws and regulations; managing mineral rights; regulating the trading of minerals; and promoting the rights of mining communities.
The Agency was established in 2012, to ensure transparent and accountable management of the minerals sector, which builds investor confidence to make long-term investments. The ultimate objective is to ensure that all Sierra Leoneans derive maximum benefits from the country’s mineral resources.
