Strengthening ESG: Why anti-corruption and business integrity in the mining sector are key for the energy transition

As the world moves towards cleaner sources of energy, demand for minerals is growing exponentially. The mining sector has a critical role to ensure that the energy transition is sustainable and just. Low-carbon technologies in power generation and in transport require a higher level of mineral inputs than their fossil-fuel based versions. This includes notable minerals like cobalt, copper, lithium, nickel and rare earths among others.

This panel will discuss opportunities and key challenges for improving governance of the mining sector and ensuring that ESG Standards are strengthened, and business integrity is maintained throughout the value chain in this context. A transparent and accountable mining sector is crucial for a sustainable and just energy transition.
