DSI-NRF CIMERA
The DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Integrated Mineral and Energy Resource Analysis (CIMERA) is a central hub for research and human resource development in mineral and energy resource analysis in Africa. The CoE, hosted by the University of Johannesburg and co-hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, collaborates with twelve local and four international universities. Research of the DSI-NRF CIMERA focuses on the genesis, distribution, extraction and sustainable use of minerals and metals of economic importance. Access to globally competent facilities and close cooperation between partner universities and research institutions enables the participants under the CIMERA umbrella to actively pursue world-class economic geology research. The CoE ensures a continued supply of highly trained natural resource analysts to address challenges of the mineral and energy resource industry and meet the demands of the energy transition and sustainable development.
CIMERA and the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF)  are co-exhibitors at the 2023 Mining Indaba in their capacity as transcontinental research partners.
