Africa is one of four operating regions of Newmont Corporation, the world’s leading gold mining business. Newmont Africa has two gold mining operations in Ghana: The Ahafo and Akyem mines. The company is in the process of establishing a third mine in Ghana - the Ahafo North project. The company operates both underground and surface. Probable and proven reserves stood at approximately 11.5 million gold equivalent ounces as of December 2021. Newmont is a leader in Sustainability and has previously been named overall Global leader for four consecutive years by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.
