Panel – Evolving infrastructure to grow the Zambia – DRC battery manufacturing partnership

The partnership between Zambia and the DRC – to establish a battery manufacturing hub in the Copperbelt region – is a revolutionary step for the African mining continent. In-country beneficiation of batteries from the world’s most lucrative copper and cobalt resources will deliver economic value to the countries and showcase Africa’s ability to extract raw minerals and create greater end-to-end value, not through export. It will put the region on the global map and show how Africa is ready to play in a global arena. It also shows how Africa understands commodities of importance that will stimulate a sustainable future. But, considering both Zambia and the DRC are landlocked countries – the need to ensure logistics constraints don’t bottleneck the development of this new industry is vital. This panel will explore not only what this great partnership means and how it is progressing, it will look at the infrastructure and logistics needed to ensure product reaches global market
