Tebello Chabana is the Senior Executive of Public Affairs and Transformation at the Minerals Council of South Africa. Prior to this, Tebello was the Head of External Affairs South Africa at Anglo American, and has held various other position at Anglo American including Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. Tebello was also the Executive Head Public Affairs at Kumba Iron Ore. He has a career spanning 20 years in the mining industry with experience in social development, public relations, mining policy and advocacy.
Africa has a prodigious mineral endowment that already provides many of the critical minerals needed by the global economy. But great natural mineral endowments do not automatically translate into successful and sustainable mining industries. To develop sustainable mining, Africa needs long term responsible investors, considered regulation and to develop a local mine-supporting ecosystem so that it captures more of the value mining generates for its host country.
