An environmental scientist by training, Julie Courtnage has over 35 years of experience in the mining sector, working at site level, in corporate mining environments, international liaison and as an independent advisor on the role of mining in sustainability processes.  She was appointed as Executive Director to the Mandela Mining Precinct in 2023, a role in which she manages research, development and innovation facilitation through the public-private-partnership between the South African Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Minerals Council South Africa. Her sustainability research background, matched with a strong communication ability has made her an advocate for a future of sustainable mineral and metal supply, mobilising parties at regional and international levels,  within policy, programme or community level for optimal, future-focussed impact.
