Technology is often presented as a powerful solution to Africa’s development challenges. But technology can also deepen inequality, displace jobs, increase dependency on foreign expertise and widen the digital divide. Who owns the technology, who develops the skills and who ultimately captures the value?

This session will debate whether technology is accelerating Africa’s development or creating new dependencies and inequalities, and what it will take to ensure the continent is a technology creator, owner and beneficiary rather than simply a technology consumer.
