Eramet has announced the formal appointment of Paulo Castellari as its new CEO.
In February 2025, Eramet's Board of Directors announced the appointment of Paulo Castellari as the company's next CEO, succeeding Christel Bories. Bories, who had served as CEO since 2017, has now transitioned to the role of Chairwoman of the Board. The separation of the roles of Chair and CEO was implemented to enhance corporate governance and strategic focus.
As CEO of Eramet, Castellari is expected to leverage his extensive experience to further the company's strategic objectives, particularly in enhancing operational performance and expanding its footprint in metals critical for the energy transition. His background in managing complex projects and driving corporate transformations positions him well to lead Eramet in a competitive and evolving industry landscape.
Castellari's career commenced with roles at AngloGold Ashanti and Minorco, where he gained early exposure to the mining sector. In 2003, he joined Anglo American marking the beginning of a significant tenure that spanned over a decade. At Anglo American, he held several key positions:
- Director of Marketing & Business Development in Brazil (2003–2005)
- Head of the Group’s Centre of Excellence (2005–2009
- CEO of Phosphates and Niobium Businesses in Brazil (2009–2011)
- CEO of Iron Ore Brazil (2011–2015)
In 2016, Castellari transitioned to the energy sector as Deputy CEO and Chief Financial Officer of CEMIG, a major Brazilian electrical power company. His tenure at CEMIG was marked by efforts to streamline financial operations and enhance corporate governance.
Following his stint at CEMIG, Castellari joined Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), one of the world's largest aluminium producers, as CEO of Guinea Alumina Corporation. In this capacity, he led the development of bauxite mining operations in Guinea, emphasizing sustainable practices and community engagement.
In 2019, Castellari assumed the role of CEO for the Brazilian branch of Appian Capital Advisory, a mining-focused private equity group. He was instrumental in managing investments and operations in nickel, copper, and graphite projects, leveraging his extensive industry experience to drive value creation.
Castellari is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and Italian, Castellari's multilingual capabilities have facilitated his effective leadership in diverse cultural and geographical settings. His career reflects a commitment to operational excellence, sustainable development, and fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the globe.
Paulo Castellari's appointment as CEO of Eramet marks a significant milestone in his distinguished career. His extensive experience and strategic vision are anticipated to drive Eramet's growth and reinforce its position as a leader in the global mining and metals industry.Join Us at Mining Indaba 2026
