Aiming to bring sustainability to the core of every mining business, the Sustainable Development Day provides an interactive and engaging platform for open dialogue to encourage the resolution of socio-economic and environmental challenges facing the industry.

Intergovernmental Summit

The Intergovernmental Summit is an open platform for African and global ministers and senior government decision-makers to debate the most challenging issues affecting the mining sector and improve bilateral trade and economic relationships between Africa and the rest of the world.

Natural resource ministers from the top 25 mining investment jurisdictions in Africa will present at the Summit the key developments in each country. A series of interactive ministerial discussions will highlight collaboration between African countries and mining-intensive economies such as Canada, Australia, US, UK, Japan, Germany and France.

As well as keynote presentations from African and international ministers, key discussion session topics will include:

• The unification of energy and minerals governance in South Africa: driving a ‘just transition’ and mapping out the future

New for 2020, the General Counsel Forum is dedicated to discussing the key regional and global legal trends facing mining lawyers working in Africa. ‘A Legal Indaba’ provides a platform for the mining lawyer community to connect and discuss the growing expectations placed on the mining GC by the board and investors in response to regional trends and global policy reforms.

Featuring speakers and panel sessions, there will also be an opportunity to share ideas about how the mining lawyer community can come together to affect change.
