The Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) is focused on boosting the economy of the Gauteng City Region. It creates a supportive environment for businesses and implements sound financial management.
The Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) is the implementation arm of the GDED and a key player in this process. It works with various partners to drive industrialisation, attract investment, and create jobs. The GGDA is particularly focused on ten high-growth sectors to ensure sustainable economic growth in Gauteng.
FACILITATING INVESTMENT AND JOB CREATION
In the 2023/24 financial year, the GGDA successfully facilitated R52.3 billion in investments across various sectors, creating more than 8,000 jobs. These investments position Gauteng as a hub for innovation, with a thriving export industry contributing R11.2 billion in goods and services to global markets.
EMPOWERING SKILLS AND ENTERPRISES
By partnering with industry leaders, the GGDA has trained over 1,500 individuals in sectors such as advanced manufacturing and ICT. In addition, the agency has empowered 200 SMMEs through incubation and support programs, boosting local businesses and fostering innovation across township economies.
A FUTURE OF GREEN GROWTH
The GGDA is poised to accelerate growth in renewable energy, clean technologies, and other key sectors. By 2025, it aims to facilitate R25 billion in investments and R55 billion in exports.
REVITALISING MINING TOWNS:
The GDED and GGDA are driving the revitalisation of Gauteng's mining towns and industrial areas through strategic investments. By focusing on manufacturing mining equipment, we are unlocking the region's industrial potential and creating sustainable economic growth.
