The Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) is the implementing arm of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) and a central driver of the province’s industrialisation, investment attraction, and enterprise growth agenda. Working closely with local and global partners, the GGDA builds a supportive and competitive environment for businesses across Africa’s economic engine. Between 2018 and 2024, the GGDA facilitated more than R156 billion in new investments, creating more than 72,000 jobs across priority sectors. This sustained momentum continues to position Gauteng as a hub for innovation, advanced manufacturing, mining services, and export-led growth. A strong focus on skills and enterprise development underpins this work. The GGDA and its partners have provided training to over 17,500 people in high-demand sectors, including advanced manufacturing, green industries, automotive production, and ICT. Through targeted incubation and supplier development programmes, the agency has also supported SMMEs, helping to strengthen township economies and broaden local participation in industrial value chains. Looking ahead, the GGDA is scaling its efforts to accelerate Gauteng’s transition to renewable energy, hydrogen, and other clean technologies, aiming to facilitate R28 billion in new investment by 2026. The agency is also advancing the revitalisation of Gauteng’s historic mining towns and industrial corridors. By catalysing investment in mining equipment manufacturing, green industrialisation, and economic infrastructure, the GGDA is unlocking new opportunities for sustainable growth and regional competitiveness. These investments position Gauteng as a hub for innovation, with a thriving export industry contributing R11.2 billion in goods and services to global markets.

EMPOWERING SKILLS AND ENTERPRISES
By partnering with industry leaders, the GGDA has trained over 1,500 individuals in sectors such as advanced manufacturing and ICT. In addition, the agency has empowered 200 SMMEs through incubation and support programs, boosting local businesses and fostering innovation across township economies.

A FUTURE OF GREEN GROWTH
The GGDA is poised to accelerate growth in renewable energy, clean technologies, and other key sectors. By 2025, it aims to facilitate R25 billion in investments and R55 billion in exports.

REVITALISING MINING TOWNS:
