JOGMEC

JOGMEC is a policy-executing agency under the Japanese government. Its mission is to secure a stable and affordable supply of natural resources to Japan. JOGMEC was established in 2004 as the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation, integrating the functions of the Japan National Oil Corporation, responsible for securing oil and natural gas supply, and the Metal Mining Agency of Japan, responsible for nonferrous metal and mineral resource supply and mine pollution control. Over time, JOGMEC expanded its portfolio with coal and geothermal energy. In 2022, the organization rebranded as the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security to include financial assistance for hydrogen and its derivatives along with carbon capture and storage, and geological structural surveys for offshore wind power generation and other fields.
