Sibusiso Khumalo is a 26-year-old Electrical Engineering student at the University of the Witwatersrand, with a multidisciplinary background spanning clinical medicine, software development, and Data Science. He is passionate about developing AI and Machine Learning solutions that drive industrial progress, particularly in the mining sector.

As a member of Team Sonar at the Mintek–SCi Grad Hackathon 2026, he developed the KHANYA component of REEFPRINT/KHANYA, a decision-support prototype designed to provide South African PGM concentrators with an early indication of ore mineralogy. His contributions include developing the mineral segmentation model, evaluating its accuracy, and building the offline dashboard.
