Avhurengwi Nengovhela is the Chief Executive Officer of the Coaltech Research Association, where he leads collaborative research and innovation across South Africa’s mining sector, with a strong focus on mining, ESG and sustainability. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Science in Mining Engineering, a Master of Earth Sciences in Geology, a Graduate Diploma in Mining Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Business, and a Certificate in Financial Analysis and Management Accounting from the London School of Economics. He has also completed executive education in ESG and Sustainability at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Avhurengwi previously served as Senior Strategy Manager at Deloitte Consulting, where he advised mining companies and senior executives on governance, risk, and sustainability integration. In this role, he worked with both global and South African organisations to align ESG frameworks with regulatory requirements, international reporting standards, and investor expectations. With over 20 years of experience across mining, sustainability, and corporate strategy, including senior roles at Petra Diamonds, Deloitte, and South32, he has built deep expertise in sustainable development, ethical governance, and risk management.
