Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Ms Esther Norris is an enterprise-wide strategic leader who has extensive experience in the private and public sectors at Executive level across various industries. As an internal strategic advisor, she collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure maximization of brand equity, compliance to regulatory and legal frameworks and policies, as well as positioning the organisation well to achieve its corporate objectives. She is a seasoned corporate leader, having worked closely with Legal and Compliance teams to manage brand and reputational risks within organisations. She has over 26 years’ experience, leading teams in various organisations in the areas of: stakeholder management including Government relations; nation branding; communications; sustainability and corporate social responsibility; brand and reputation management; public and external relations; marketing communications; media relations and public policy. Her experience spans different industries including telecommunications, financial services, mining/ precious metals and investment promotion. She has gained experience in local and global blue-chip companies, driving change for the realisation of the organisational mandate and ensuring maximum shareholder value. She is commercially astute and easily translates her work into commercial enterprise. Her leadership skills have been demonstrated through coaching and mentoring several of her subordinates who have since risen to leadership positions. Ms Norris was the Deputy Chairperson of Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority, created for the regulation of the communications sector in Botswana, and responsible for regulating Telecommunications, Internet and information and communication technologies, Radio communications, Broadcasting, Postal services and related matters. This positions her well for this role. She is the inaugural Head of Corporate Communications at Minerals Development Company Botswana, which is a commercially run minerals investment company whose sole shareholder is the Government of the Republic of Botswana.
