Gary Lane is an engineer, executive, and recognised thought leader in the mining industry, with extensive experience across mining operations, technology, and organisational performance. He is the President of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) and the founder of Vuuma Collaborations, where he focuses on helping organisations transition from effort-driven activity to people-centric operating models that deliver measurable value. In addition to his industry leadership roles, Gary has founded and led multiple start-ups aimed at driving innovation and meaningful change in the mining and industrial sectors, particularly at the intersection of people, process, and technology. His work spans operational excellence, systems thinking, governance, and leadership development, with a strong emphasis on translating strategy into practical, on-site execution. He is particularly passionate about building capable teams, strengthening operating models, and applying data-driven value driver frameworks to improve safety, productivity, and long-term sustainability in complex operating environments.
