Kagiso Menoe
Director: Beneficiation Economics Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources
Mr. Kagiso Menoe currently holds the position of Director of Mineral Beneficiation Economics within the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy in South Africa, where he is responsible for overseeing the formulation of strategies and policy interventions pertinent to mineral beneficiation. HE was part of the team that developed the Critical Minerals and Metals Strategy of South Africa and its implementation plan. Among the initiatives developed by the Beneficiation team under his leadership are the amendments to Section 26 of the MPRD Bill, the procurement, beneficiation offset, and enterprise development elements of the mining charters of 2016 and 2018, as well as the 2011 Minerals Beneficiation Strategy. In addition to his expertise in policy and strategy development, he possesses substantial experience in governance and leadership. He has served as a board member for the Council for Geosciences (CGS), the State Diamond Trader (SDT), and the South African Diamonds and Precious Minerals Regulator (SADPMR). In both 2018 and 2022, he was seconded to the SDT, where he assumed the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer. Before his tenure at the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, Kagiso was employed at the SADPMR as a quality assurance inspector and at De Beers as a mineral processing engineer. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Wits University.
