Katleho Maeko

Deputy Head: Legal Minerals Council South Africa

Katleho Maeko is the Deputy Head of Legal at the Minerals Council South Africa and a young legal professional actively engaged in shaping the future of South Africa’s mining sector. An admitted attorney, he holds an LLB and a Postgraduate Certificate in Prospecting and Mining Law from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Master of Laws (Commercial Law) from the University of Cape Town. Katleho joined the mining industry in 2016 and previously served as Assistant Company Secretary, Legal Manager, and later Group Legal Manager at Harmony Gold Mining Company. He completed his articles of clerkship at Webber Wentzel, rotating through the tax, mergers and acquisitions, and litigation practices. His work focuses on mining law, regulatory reform, security, and collaborative governance to support inclusive growth, investment certainty, and responsible mining in South Africa.
