Marie Badiane-Mbuyu

Strategic Legal Advisor Kuchera

Marie Badiane-Mbuyu is a trilingual (French, English, German) international business lawyer with extensive global exposure and dual civil/common law expertise. She advises on end-to-end structuring of complex cross-border transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors. With a strong focus on using energy finance as a catalyst for real-economy investment, she is skilled in contract drafting and negotiation, regulatory compliance, public-private structuring, and international financing. Marie handles sophisticated mandates in both French and English with full autonomy. With deep regional experience across West, Central, and Southern Africa, Marie brings a nuanced understanding of local market dynamics. Her core competencies include technology and AI literacy, as well as a strong specialization in the energy sector—particularly renewables, hydrogen, new energies, and their intersection with mining. Her background in institutional and financial structuring across EU law, DFIs, and export credit agencies enables her to deploy blended finance strategies in support of sustainable economic growth. In her role as Strategic Legal Advisor to Kuchera, Marie operates at the convergence of mining technology, finance, and decarbonisation. She helps design innovative commercial and financing structures that allow junior and mid-tier mining companies—often underserved and unable to access affordable capital—to adopt next-generation operational intelligence, hybrid renewable power, and fleet-optimisation technologies. Her work includes developing risk- and revenue-sharing mechanisms, such as Life-of-Mine–aligned royalty-based contracts, in which technology providers and mining developers jointly share performance outcomes. By integrating real-time data analytics, SPV-based renewable energy models, carbon monetisation, and bankability-enhancing legal frameworks, she contributes to building scalable, tech-enabled pathways that reduce diesel dependence, improve productivity, and lower the cost of capital for smaller mining operators across Africa.
