Mr. Olefile Cisco Mashabila has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Geoscience Institute (BGI) since September 2021, leading a period of significant institutional transformation, sustainability, and operational excellence. He spearheaded BGI’s commercialisation roadmap, achieving SADCAS laboratory accreditation, optimising infrastructure, and introducing new business and operating models that enhanced efficiency, productivity, and disciplined execution. A seasoned mineral resource practitioner with over 20 years of experience, Mr. Mashabila conceptualised and led the development of Botswana’s first Mineral Resource Development, Exploration, Exploitation, Beneficiation and Value Chain (MRDEEVC) Strategy. This landmark framework advances economic diversification, value addition, and citizen participation in the mineral sector. He also oversaw the acquisition of the former BCL laboratories, now being transformed into a Centre of Excellence to support mineral value chain development and advanced analytical services. Previously, he held senior mineral resources leadership roles at Debswana, BCL, and Tati Nickel Mining. Mr. Mashabila holds MSc degrees in Engineering (Mineral Resources Management) and Strategic Management, a BSc in Geology, and is affiliated with SACNASP and SAIMM.
