Mr Bird is an experienced geologist extensive mining industry executive experience and a strong back ground in capital markets and investor relations. Prior to joining AKORA, he was Executive General Manager Business Development & Investor Relations at Rex Minerals. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the successful acquisition of Rex Minerals by Mach Metals. His career includes numerous senior leadership roles encompassing broad executive and strategic expertise:
• Executive Chairman of Zenith Minerals Ltd;
• CEO of Asiamet Resources Limited;
• Non-Executive Chairman of Excelsior Gold Limited; and 
• Joint founder and Managing Director of Heemskirk Consolidated Limited before its takeover by a private equity group;
• Senior Executive roles at Newcrest Mining and Normandy Mining; and
• Experience in finance at Merrill Lynch Equities Australia. 
Mr Bird currently serves as Non-Executive Chairman of base and precious metals explorer Cosmo Metals Limited (ASX:CMO). He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours), Geoscience Major, Botany & Economics and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
