Cross-Border Road Transport

At the heart of the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA) is a proud history of providing a dedicated service to cross-border road transport operators in the form of cross-border permits issued as well as the necessary support to the rapidly growing small and medium cross-border road transport businesses. The C-BRTA has remained the driving force behind the cross-border business focus regardless of the challenges it has faced since its establishment in 1998. Established by the Cross-Border Road Transport Act 4 of 1998, the C-BRTA caters for the co-operative and co-ordinated provision of advice, regulation, facilitation and law enforcement in respect of cross-border road transport by the public and private sectors. This is underpinned by the Agency’s wholehearted belief in its mission of spearheading social and economic development within the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region through facilitating unimpeded cross border road transport movements. OUR LEGISLATIVE MANDATE • To improve the unimpeded flow of freight and passengers in the region; • To introduce regulated competition in respect of cross-border passenger road transport; • To reduce operational constraints for the cross-border road transport industry as a whole; • To liberalise market access progressively in respect of cross-border freight road transport; • To empower the cross-border road transport industry to maximize business opportunities and to regulate themselves incrementally to improve safety, security, reliability, quality and efficiency of services.
