Minister of Minerals United Republic of Tanzania
Hon. Anthony Peter Mavunde, a Member of Parliament for Dodoma Urban Constituency since 2015, is the Minister for Minerals of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Hon. Mavunde is a Professional Lawyer who holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Dodoma (UDOM), Post graduate Diploma in Legal Practical training (Law School) from University of Dar es Salaam and Bachelor degree of Law from Mzumbe University in the United Republic of Tanzania. He previously worked as the Chief Executive Officer in Federation of Miners Association of Tanzania (FEMATA) from 2013 to 2015.
He then worked as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of States, Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliamentary affairs, Coordination, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled. He also worked as the Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture.
He has extensive experience in leadership, with an in depth understanding and passionate for youth development. He is well known of his excellency and innovation that contributed to the establishment of Kizimba Model and Block farming for youth engagement in Agricultural Sector in Tanzania.

After training in business and finance law, Valère Moutarlier practised tax law for several years within the Francis Lefebvre Bureau, a French law firm. Since his entry into the European Commission in 1993, he has held several functions, first in the Directorate-General (DG) Taxation and Customs Union and then in DG Budget. When joining DG Enterprise and Industry in 2003, he leads the Strategic Planning Unit and, subsequently, the team responsible for setting up Copernicus, the European Earth Observation Space Programme.Having spent 5 years in the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Tax Policy (2010-2014), he was appointed Director for Direct Taxation, Economic Analysis and Evaluation in DG Taxation and Customs Union. In December 2019, he headed the Cabinet of Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market. Senior Adviser in DG Taxation and Customs Union since October 2024, he was appointed Deputy Director-General for Industry and Decarbonisation in DG Internal Market in October 2025.

John Humphrey is His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa. He was appointed in June 2022.
Prior to joining the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), John was the Group Chief Executive Officer of Kent HoldCo Limited (KHL).
Between 2012 and 2019 John was with the UK Hydrographic Office (an MOD Trading Fund). From 2015 he was Chief Executive and Accounting Officer. Before that he was Chief Commercial Officer, Deputy Chief Executive and Interim Chief Commercial Officer.
Earlier in his career, John worked in the technology sector in a variety of commercial, general management and executive roles in the UK and overseas.
He is also a Lay Trustee of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.

The HM Trade Commissioner for Africa works closely with the wider diplomatic network and other colleagues to coordinate the UK government effort to promote UK trade and investment across the African continent.
The Trade Commissioner has full responsibility for all Department for Business and Trade (DBT) work in Africa including:

South Africa has adopted a Critical Minerals Strategy and Implementation Plan that positions the country as a reliable supplier and value-adding hub for minerals essential to the global energy transition, digitalisation, and advanced manufacturing. This was further supported by the adoption of the G20 Critical Minerals Framework at the G20 Leaders Summit.
