Robert Friedland is a renowned financier and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in the global financial and mineral resources industries. He is widely recognized for his role as an entrepreneurial explorer, technology innovator, and company builder. Under Mr. Friedland’s leadership, executives within the Ivanhoe Group and associated companies have raised more than US$35 billion through a diverse range of financing vehicles on world capital markets since 1993. This capital has been invested in more than 30 countries across six continents, directed primarily at the mineral extraction and disruptive technology sectors. In the mining sector, Mr. Friedland has been instrumental in the discovery and development of some of the world’s most significant mineral deposits, including Fort Knox in Alaska, Voisey’s Bay in Canada, Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia, Platreef in South Africa,and Kamoa-Kakula in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Mr. Friedland played a key role in the success of Diamond Fields, guiding its financing and development before its sale to INCO in 1996. Mr. Friedland has founded a number of world-class mining companies, including Ivanhoe Mines in the 1990s. Mr. Friedland led Ivanhoe Mines through its discovery and development of the massive Oyu Tolgoi copper deposit in Mongolia and subsequent acquisition by Rio Tinto. Mr. Friedland then applied the Ivanhoe Mines name to another company he founded, which has gone on to discover and develop multiple Tier 1 mineral discoveries across the African continent. As Executive Co-Chairman of the new Ivanhoe Mines, Mr. Friedland has overseen the development and expansion of one of the world's largest and highest-grade copper discoveries in recent times, known as the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex. Under his leadership, the market capitalization of Ivanhoe Mines has grown significantly, making it a leading player in the global mining industry (tickers TSX: IVN; OTCQX: IVPAF). Mr. Friedland's contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including inductions into the Canadian and American Mining Halls of Fame. He was awarded the Order of the Polar Star by the Mongolian President for his role in the development of Oyu Tolgoi. His career is marked by significant achievements in both mineral exploration and technological innovation, making him one of the most influential figures in the global mining industry.
