Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Hon. Bouna Sylla

Minister of Mines and Geology Republic of Guinea

Bouna Sylla, a Guinean lawyer and tax expert, was born in Mamou, 300 km from Conakry. He has served as Minister of Mines and Geology in Guinea’s third transitional government, led by Amadou Oury Bah, since 13 March 2024.
Mr Sylla holds a Master’s degree in Private Law from the University of Conakry and pursued advanced legal studies in France, earning multiple qualifications, including a DESS in Business Law from Université Paris-V René Descartes in 1999. He further enriched his expertise with a Certificate in Oil, Gas & Mining Governance from the University of Oxford in 2015.
His career spans diverse roles, including research associate at Université Paris-IX Dauphine, lecturer in Canada, and Associate Director at Epsilone-Audit & Conseil. Notably, he served as Economic and Fiscal Adviser to Guinea’s Ministry of Mines (2011–2021), contributing to strategic initiatives that enhanced the mining sector’s global appeal.
Before his ministerial appointment, he chaired the Board of Directors of the Compagnie du TransGuinéen, overseeing Guinea’s landmark Simandou Project from July 2022 to March 2024.
Bouna Sylla’s distinguished career reflects his dedication to advancing Guinea’s legal and mining sectors on the global stage.
