The Minerals Commission of Ghana is the statutory body established by an act of Parliament (Minerals Commission Act, 1993, Act 450). The Commission exercises direct responsibility for the regulation and management of the utilization of the country's mineral resources and the co-ordination of policies relating to the mining industry.
The Commission's mandate includes the formulation of policy and regulatory recommendations on the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources, advise the Minister responsible for mining and to monitor the implementation of government policies in relation to minerals and mining.
Ghana envisioned becoming the leading destination for mining sector investment in Africa, through the creation of congenial and equitable mining business conditions upon which all stakeholders work as partners in a safe environment and in harmony with host communities for responsible mining and sustainable development. The Commission holds high the principles of Professionalism, Integrity, Teamwork and Service Excellence.
