Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Aleksandra Cholewa

Director of Investment and Development Luma Holding

Aleksandra combines her extensive knowledge of the metals and mining industry with expertise in foreign policy, international relations, and investigative journalism. She leads and coordinates global projects for Luma Holding Group, where she spearheaded the development of LuNa Smelter in Rwanda, the first tin smelter in Africa to be fully certified by the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP). A dedicated advocate for responsible mineral production, Aleksandra actively contributes to the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals as a member of its Management Board. 
With a strong focus on sustainable development and the responsible sourcing of strategic raw materials, Aleksandra leverages emerging technologies, including blockchain, to enhance data digitalisation and create digital product passports. Her experience spans copper, tin, tantalum, and coal projects at various stages, with a particular emphasis on improving transparency, traceability, and supply chain integrity. 
A graduate of the International Women in Mining mentoring program, Aleksandra balances her professional work with her academic pursuits as a PhD student at the University of Szczecin and charity work as a Board Member of the Afriquia Foundation. Recently, she joined the Women in Metals initiative, reinforcing her commitment to empowering women in the mining and metals industries. In 2022, she was honoured in the Top Global 100 Women in Mining List, published biennially by WIM UK
