Arno Barnard is an accomplished mining executive spearheading sustainable mining practices across Africa. As Head of Sustainability and Accountable Tailings Executive at Andrada Mining, he implements comprehensive ESG strategies and systems-based solutions that drive operational excellence and stakeholder value.

With experience across the complete mining value chain - from exploration and operations to closure planning - and roles at Endeavour Mining, Impala Terminals (Trafigura), Metorex Mining, and consulting for Randgold Resources, Barnard brings strategic insight to mining sector sustainability. His expertise spans gold, tin, lithium, and copper operations, with proven success in developing and executing strategies in challenging African contexts.

Barnard specializes in developing practical sustainability strategies that integrate seamlessly into mining operations – aligning community engagement, environmental management, and governance frameworks. At Andrada Mining, he leads critical initiatives in Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) implementation, mine closure planning, and resource governance advancement, while developing an integrated systems approach to sustainability that breaks down traditional siloed thinking in addressing complex sustainability risks and issues.

As an active contributor to mining standards through SAIMM ESGS and ILiA committees, and a regular speaker at international mining conferences, Barnard combines technical expertise with practical industry applications to advance sustainable mining practices that balance operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.
