Bongiwe Mabusela is working for department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources in the Republic of South Africa as a Director: Empowerment Transactions Assessment.
She has more than 10 years’ experience as a Senior Manager in government.
Her journey includes taking initiatives ensuring inclusivity and diversity in the mining sector. She is a believer that future proof communities will be obtained when there is greater collaboration and industry working together with communities to co-create solutions.
She refuses to be wedded in shackles but to look for blue ocean strategies. She is a change-maker as a result she is deliberate about transformation programs.
When it comes to leadership Bongiwe believes in leadership with purpose. She considers an open-door approach not to be sufficient but prefers an open mind approach. Her conviction is that true leadership is not a method but an attitude.
She is an annual speaker at the DRC Mining week conference held in DRC addressing issues of inclusivity

- Realistic or myth: Is it realistic and achievable to have alternative sustainable livelihoods outside mining for mining communities, particularly those whose economic driver is mainly mining?
- Critical success factors: What would it really take to future-proof communities? Including critical success factors and the sustainability of potential opportunities outside of mining.
- Leadership reflection: Reflecting and engaging on who should take the lead in the effort to future-proof communities
- Actionable steps: Sharing current activities that show potential and could make a difference if scaled
