Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Cedric MBENG MEZUI has nearly 20 years of professional experience during which he has led numerous investment projects as well as economic and financial reforms in nearly 49 countries in Africa. A Gabonese national, he joined the Bank in 2008. For 6 years, he led the Bank’s flagship initiative in the development of local currency bond markets: the African Financial Markets Initiative (AFMI). He contributed to the introduction of financial innovation and new initiatives in capital markets. In 2016, he led a project that was awarded the “Deal of the Year” distinction by African Banker, by carrying out the first partial credit guarantee project on a Eurobond swap that paved the way for other similar projects. 
Since 2022, he has served as Head of Private Sector Investment Operations at the AfDB’s Africa Investment Forum (AIF) platform where he leads the projects’ origination processes and investors mobilization. He holds a master’s degree in applied mathematics, a master’s degree in Currency Finance (econometrics) from Université Lumière Lyon 2 and a specialized Master’s degree in Banking and Financial Engineering from Toulouse Business School (France). He has continued to strengthen his expertise throughout his professional career, notably within Citibank’s training programs, at INSEAD Singapore and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He was in the first cohort of the Leadership Development Program, provided by EMERITUS and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), for the Bank’s senior executives.
