Frans Baleni is a visionary leader with over 30 years of multi-industry experience. He is recognised for turning ideas into results through sound strategy, uniting diverse perspectives, and maintaining a calm, respected approach to decision-making. His leadership style blends storytelling that inspires action with a steadfast commitment to health and safety, principles that have consistently guided his career and the organisations he has served.Beginning his career as a mineworker, he played a pivotal role in establishing the National Union of Mineworkers. Since then, he has built a reputation for tackling complex challenges across industries and for leading teams as an executive coach, consultant, and mentor, including contributions to GEPF. Currently serving as Chairman of the Mining Indaba Executive Advisory Board, he brings sharp commercial insight, strong governance expertise, and a commitment to health and safety, government relations, energy, and stakeholder management. His influence also extends to shaping national policy, with contributions to the King II Committee on sustainability and the National Electricity Forum that led to the establishment of NERSA.
