Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Head of Mining Technical Solutions CSIR

Hartmut Brodner holds a BSc and an MSc in chemical engineering from the University of Cape Town. He has over a decade of experience in the mining industry in various roles and across different parts of the mining value chain. He has held positions in technical, innovation and commercial roles within Anglo American, Kumba Iron Ore, Metso and currently at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. 
Hartmut joined the CSIR in 2021 as Business Development Manager, where he assisted the Mining team’s growth and supported its new mining innovation strategy development. He has recently taken up the role of Head of Mining Technical Solutions, where he leads a team of mining, geotechnical, safety, sustainability and digital specialists to support Mining Houses, Original Equipment Manufacturers and Original Technical Manufacturers with their automation, digital transformation, sustainability, circular economy and operational efficiency programmes focused on the mining extraction process. He is passionate about having a positive impact on people, developing novel technologies and the mining industry. And believes the interface between people and technology is critically important to the global competitiveness of the South African Mining Industry.
