Minister of Mines & Mineral Resources Republic of Sierra Leone
Hon. Julius D. Mattai, Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, is a highly accomplished professional with over 31 years of experience across the public and private sectors in Sierra Leone, Liberia, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. He holds two MSc degrees with Distinction in Geology and Mineral Exploration (Ukraine) and Environmental and Earth Resources Management (UK). His expertise spans geology and mineral exploration, mining, environmental and natural resources management, GIS and remote sensing, MIS, research and M&E, climate change, disaster risk management, and health information systems. Hon. Mattai previously served at the National Minerals Agency (NMA) as Director-General (2019–2023), and has provided consultancy services to mining companies and international organizations. He also founded and led INTEGEMS, a multidisciplinary consultancy serving clients such as the World Bank, UNDP, UNOPS, and UNICEF. Internationally, he held senior roles with UNMEER/UNOPS during the Ebola response in Liberia, AEA Technology plc (UK), and the Greater London Authority, contributing to major environmental, spatial, and infrastructure initiatives. He is fluent in Russian.
