John Magok

Mineral Resources Development Expert African Union

Eng. John Youhanes Magok is a seasoned professional with expertise in Mineral Resources Development currently serving as an Expert within the Department of Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry, and Minerals at the African Union Commission. 
In this role, he plays a pivotal role in coordinating the implementation and domestication of the African Union Commodity Strategy, a flagship project of Agenda 2063, across Regional Economic Communities and AU Member States. This encompasses coordinating the development of policies on minerals, oil, and gas. 
Prior to his current position, he served as both a Programme Officer and Junior Mining Policy Officer within the same Department. Throughout his tenure, he has made significant contributions to the implementation of key continental initiatives, including Supporting the popularization of the Africa Mining Vision, Coordinating the conceptualization of the Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) Formalization Strategy, and Coordinating the drafting of the AU Model Law on Mineral Resources Development. 
He also played a crucial role in supporting the interim operationalization of the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), a Specialized Agency of the African Union. 
Beyond his work at the AUC, Eng. Magok is a passionate advocate for youth empowerment. As the Founder and Executive Director of the Nile Youth Development Actions (NYDA), a grassroots youth-led organization, he actively works to advance socio-economic development in the Nile Basin Region.
