Prof. Glen Nwaila

Associate Professor University of Witwatersrand

Prof. Glen Nwaila holds a PhD in Geosciences from the University of Wuerzburg (Germany) and MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town (South Africa). Glen recently transitioned from being the Director of the Wits Mining Institute to Professor of Economic Geology, Machine Learning, and Deputy Head of School of Geosciences, University of the Witwatersrand. With over 19 years of experience in academia, the mining industry, and professional advisory consulting services, Glen has worked for several mining companies (e.g., Gold Fields, Sibanye Stillwater, Harmony Gold, MGC Coal, and advisory firms such as Deloitte Technical Mining Advisory Division and SmartMin Mining Data Analytics Division. Glen is a former rising star South Africa awardee in the mining and metals division. Glen specialises in in the disciplines of Economic Geology, Extractive Metallurgy, GeoData Science, Data Analytics, Geostatistics and Machine Learning. His primary interests are numerical modelling, development of hydrometallurgical process flowsheets, financial valuation of mining assets, mineral resources estimation and multi-variate commodity analysis.
