Thabo Kgarabjang
PhD student (University of Limpopo) Center of Excellence In Integrated Mineral and Energy Resource Analysis
Thabo Stephen Kgarabjang is a Ph.D. student in geology at the University of Limpopo, South Africa, and the deputy chairperson of the Limpopo branch of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM). With a keen interest in the intricate processes that govern mineral formation and the economic implications of mining, Thabo is poised to make significant contributions to the field.
Thabo's research focuses on metallogenesis, exploring the genesis and spatial distribution of precious and base metals. His work aims to develop more efficient and sustainable methods for mineral exploration and extraction, aligning with the industry shift towards environmentally responsible practices. In addition to his research, Thabo is an active member of professional organizations such as the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA) and the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD). He has presented his findings at national and international conferences, contributing to the understanding of geology in the broader scientific community. Passionate about bridging the gap between academia and industry, Thabo strongly supports collaboration with mining companies to implement innovative exploration techniques and promote best practices. Thabo is driven by a vision of sustainable and responsible mining, benefiting both society and the environment.
2025 Agenda Sessions
What does an explorer of the future look like? New approach, new investment opportunities?
- Will the next generation of geologists approach exploration differently?
- What role will technology play in reducing timelines for new discoveries?
- The investor view: what is needed to increase investor interest at exploration stage, and could this lead to increased longer-term investment spend?
- How important is sustainability to next gen explorers, and investors?
