Driving sustainable investment in African Mining

Dr. Asinne Tshibubudze

Senior Specialist Scientist: Head of Exploration Council for Geoscience

I am a Senior Specialist Scientist: Head of Exploration with over 16 years of experience spanning exploration, research, consulting, and academia. My work focuses on structural geology, tectonics, and mineralisation processes that drive sustainable resource development. I have led major multinational exploration‑focused projects across the West African Craton (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire), Botswana, Mexico, and South Africa. These initiatives improved the understanding of regional mineral potential, addressed critical data gaps, and guided industry partners toward high‑prospectivity targets. I lead Greenfields and Brownfields projects working on diverse mineral systems including gold, base metals, Ni‑Cu‑PGE, manganese, iron, heavy mineral sands, and sedimentary/structurally hosted copper. I manage multidisciplinary teams, oversee budgets and strategic decisions, and ensure successful project delivery. I thrive at the intersection of geological science, exploration strategy, and organisational leadership—focused on unlocking mineral potential and strengthening the exploration value chain.

2026 Agenda Sessions

Africa's exploration hotspots - critical minerals on a critical timeline

Africa is not just rich in resources – it’s the ultimate frontier for discovery. From copper belts to lithium corridors, the continent holds the keys to the global energy transition. As investor appetite surges and offtake deals accelerate, the race is on to uncover the next game-changing deposits. How can explorers push boundaries, fast-track projects, and secure funding while navigating political headwinds, complex geopolitics, and the risk of over-reliance on single-country buyers?
