Gerald Byarugaba

Gerald Byarugaba is a specialist in Natural Resource Governance and Fiscal Justice. Over 10 years’ experience in civil society research and advocacy have equipped him with solid understanding of the key community and policy issues in the oil, gas and mining industry across Africa. He has engaged international corporations, government leaders including presidents in advocating for transparent and sustainable development of natural resources in Africa. He is an Economist, Monitoring and Evaluation Professional and has attended prestigious fellowships such as the PETRAD 8-Weeks Course in Petroleum Policy Management in Stavanger, Norway. Presently, Gerald lead’s Oxfam’s programme on Governance of Oil, Gas and Mining in Africa, where he engages regional institutions such as the African Union, International Financial Institutions among others in shaping policies for a transparent and sustainable extractive industry. He also provides leadership in the development and implementation of multi-county programs with Oxfam and partner organizations across more than 20 countries. He has spoken at international conferences on Energy Transition, Mining, Climate Justice and Fiscal Justice.
