Murendeni Makhado is an accomplished environmental and sustainability leader with extensive experience spanning water stewardship, risk management, ESG performance and strategic resource planning across the mining, forestry and industrial sectors. Her career reflects a strong progression through technical, managerial and corporate roles, where she has led the development of water stewardship strategies, advanced circular economy initiatives, strengthened regulatory compliance, and contributed to high‑level governance processes including board submissions and sustainability reporting. Beyond her professional roles, Murendeni is deeply engaged in regional and global sustainability networks. She has served on multiple advisory boards, including Topco’s Future of Sustainability and the South Africa–United States Alumni Connect, and contributes to sectoral bodies such as the International Water Association (SA), Women in Mining - Africa, the BRICS Youth Council, and the Badiramogo Water Users Association. Her leadership excellence has earned her recognition as a Mandela Washington Fellow, Minerals Council sustainability hero, LeadHER Africa honouree, Forty Under 40 Africa finalist and ENEL foundation Open Africa Power Alumni. Murendeni brings a unique blend of strategic insight, technical depth and collaborative influence, championing sustainable development and equitable resource management.
