Coverage Head, Resources & Energy Absa Bank

Shirley joined Absa Bank Limited in 2011 and is the Coverage Head for Resources and Energy at Absa Corporate and Investment Banking. Her responsibilities include maintaining and growing relationships in the mining, metals, minerals, oil, gas, chemical, power and renewables industries. In 2025, based on her extensive subject matter expertise, Shirley was appointed to the B20 Energy Mix and Just Transition Task Force. The B20 is the global business forum for the G20, bringing together business representatives from the G20 countries, selected invited countries, and international organizations to discuss critical economic and business issues. Through its Task Forces, the B20 will develop recommendations on a wide range of mandates, including enhancing trade, advancing infrastructure development, and navigating sustainable energy transitions and food security. In 2025, she was appointed as a board member of The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South Africa, a non-profit private entity whose main objective is the promotion of commercial, economic, and industrial relations between Spain and South Africa. In 2024, Shirley was nominated to represent Absa at the Energy Council of South Africa. She participates in the Quarterly Leadership Forum and is a member of the Standing Committee on Investment and Finance. The Energy Council of South Africa is a non-profit body aimed at enabling a thriving and sustainable energy sector supporting inclusive economic growth. In 2021, she was selected for the Power List of Pan-African female leaders in energy as one of Africa’s fifty most inspirational female energy executives. Shirley has a wealth of experience working with key clients such as Anglo American, Glencore, Harmony Gold, Kosmos Energy, Sibanye-Stillwater, Petra Diamonds, Mainstream, First Quantum Minerals, Tullow Oil, Acwa Power, Enel, Globeleq, Infinity Power, Trafigura, Sonangol and Sasol, amongst others. She is an industry expert and a sought-after speaker at global events including Africa Energy Week, the annual Africa Mining Indaba, Green Energy Africa and Africa Energy Week and is often invited to appear on CNBC Africa and eNCA. Shirley holds a CAIB (SA) Associate Banking Diploma, a B.Com(Ed)(Cum Laude) and a B.Com Honours degree in Financial and Strategic Management.
