Tatiana Aguilar leads the World Economic Forum’s mining and metals community, convening global leaders to drive a more responsible, resilient and productive industry. She advances public–private partnerships that shape the sector’s strategic agenda and strengthen collaboration across industries and regions. Originally from Latin America, Tatiana’s career has been rooted in the belief that natural resource development can be a force for positive change. Her experience spans public management, policy and international cooperation across the mining and energy sectors, where she has led diverse teams to design and implement policies and solutions that improve social outcomes. She has also contributed to international development initiatives, consulting projects and research focused on unlocking long-term value for communities and economies. An economist with master’s degrees in Economics and in Social Policy and Development, Tatiana works at the intersection of policy, industry and innovation. She is driven by a commitment to advancing a more responsible, inclusive and future-ready mining and metals sector.

This session will seek to identify and brainstorm actionable policy and regulatory frameworks that better enable African governments to leverage their mineral wealth – shifting from traditional commodity extraction to a more diversified, complex economic model. It will explore how African countries can move beyond simple resource extraction to build economic complexity through industrialization, technological innovation and advanced manufacturing.
