Nordic Africa Institute

Stand: 1U41

The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) conducts independent, policy-relevant research on contemporary Africa. We believe that research-based knowledge and analysis offer a solid foundation for informed decision-making and contribute to the fulfilment of the global development agenda.

NAI is a Swedish government agency founded in 1962, which also receives support from the governments of Finland and Iceland.

Our research spans a number of impact areas in the social sciences, including Africa’s role in the production and supply of minerals for the green transition. We are currently involved in a research project examining the socio-political, economic, and environmental dynamics of mineral extraction, processing, and refining, as well as the national and transnational policy strategies and regulatory environments emerging around green transition minerals.

The project covers artisanal and small-scale mining; revenue, equity, and state services; productive linkages and extraction-related infrastructure; and regional and transnational regulatory contexts.

You can find more information about NAI and our research on our website.
