VP, Social Impact Anglo American

Vanessa began her career in the petrochemical industry before transitioning to the mining sector. She has held various roles across the mining value chain.  Her extensive operational and functional experience includes diverse commodities, geographies, and cultures across the globe. Vanessa is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa with a master’s degree in engineering. She is a certified director and serves on several boards. Vanessa is currently the VP Social Impact at Anglo American and is based in Johannesburg. In her role, she oversees socio-economic development, collaborative regional initiatives, and the design and implementation of strategic programs that supports the strengthening of the mining ecosystem in the country and beyond. Her work involves engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on national and global priorities that advance the social agenda of EESG, working collaboratively and in partnership with national and local government, government business enterprises, academia and community groups. Vanessa is deeply committed to creating sustainable solutions that expand socio-economic opportunities in South Africa and across the continent.
